What Is Floor Time?

Since we first posted our web site, in November of 1999, we have received many requests from parents who want to know more about Floor Time.

Floor Time is the central component of the Developmental, Individual Difference, Relationship-based Model, also known as DIR, created by Stanley Greenspan, M.D.

This section of our site is an attempt to provide some parent-friendly information on our chosen intervention method. Please remember, though, that we are parents just like you, not professionals in the field of designing intervention programs for developmentally disabled children. We can give you a good description of the method, some of which we've borrowed from the Autism National Committee, as well as our reasons for choosing it over the more common behavioral approaches, but we strongly suggest reading Dr. Stanley Greenspan's book, The Child With Special Needs, for the very best information on how DIR works and why it works.

Recommended Reading:

The Child With Special Needs is the definitive volume for parents and professionals new to the DIR Model. The Asperger's Express recommends The Child With Special Needs for anyone seeking to learn more about this comprehensive, effective,  developmentally based intervention program.
